We MUST choose up sides…

We MUST choose up sides – AND decide who our enemy is

What is the most important thing in your life – really THE MOST IMPORTANT

be honest with yourself…

We can tell by:

  • what we think about most often
  • where or what we spend the most time on
  • where we spend the most energy
  • what we like to do the most
  • who we like to be around the most
  • where we get the most pleasure investing our time, energy, and loves…

How do we handle conflict… desires… our motives… people… time… money… our pride… our humility… our energies ? ? ?

What do we give our self most completely to ? ? ?

How faithful are we to our commitment to the Lord Jesus?

Now before you go on… go back and honestly answer these questions to the best of your ability

The book of James has been called the “New Testament Proverbs”. James gets right down to the weaknesses of the redeemed human nature – that’s right he is addressing Christians who struggle with choosing what way we are going to spend our life – in the world system… satan’s domain – or in the kingdom of God – living our lives committed to and for Christ.

We cannot live submitted to both kingdoms – we must choose and we cannot flip flop back and forth either…

 Consider with me James 4:1-10 in the Amplified Bible:

Christians can choose to live like this:

1 WHAT LEADS to strife (discord and feuds) and how do conflicts (quarrels and fightings) originate among you? Do they not arise from your sensual {not necessarily sexual} desires that are ever warring in your bodily members? 2 You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask.  [1 John 3:15.] 3 [Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures. 4 You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.

The results of living by the philosophies, attitudes, direction, motives, and ways of the devils world system cannot give us the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that we seek …

 Christians are chosen and empowered by God to live like this: it’s our new nature…

5 Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, The Spirit whom He {God} has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He {God} yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love?  [Jer 3:14; Hos 2:19ff.]

6 But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it).  [Prov 3:34.]

The way to deal with sin in a Christian’s life:

7 So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you. {2 steps to victory for Christ-followers}

8 Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners [when you sin], get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery] {thru repentance}.

9 [As you draw near to God] be deeply penitent and grieve, even weep [over your disloyalty]. Let your laughter be turned to grief and your mirth to dejection and heartfelt shame [for your sins]. {let God change the things you enjoy and rejoice over – repent}

10 Humble yourselves [feeling very insignificant] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up and make your lives significant].

We all desire to be significant and feel we are making a difference… Let’s submit our ALL to our Heavenly Father, follow His guidance, and allow Him to make us significant for now and eternity…

What do you think?
